NEW DELHI, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- India and Pakistan on Wednesday exchanged the list of civilian prisoners and fishermen in each other's jails, officials said.
The exchange was carried out through diplomatic channels simultaneously in New Delhi and Islamabad, India's Foreign Ministry said.
India has shared the names of 381 civilian prisoners and 81 fishermen in its custody, who are Pakistanis or are believed to be Pakistanis. Similarly, Pakistan has shared the names of 49 civilian prisoners and 217 fishermen in its custody, who are Indians or are believed to be Indians, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
According to the ministry, the exchange was conducted in accordance with provisions of a bilateral agreement on consular access under which such lists are exchanged every year on Jan. 1 and July 1. ■
